Hi again! If you follow me on Instagram you’d know that my Makeup Geek purchases just arrived and I can’t be more ecstatic. I’ve had a chance to play around with them a bit today, so I hope you enjoy my first impressions review and swatches.

Read on for my first impressions and swatches!

Before we start, here’s Bucket with my Colourpop (check out my shadows review here, and blushes review here!) and Makeup Geek goodies – he won’t let me work and just wants to play! 😀

Here are the things I purchased from Makeup Geek:

This is my first ever Makeup Geek purchase so I had a hard time deciding which shades I wanted, but I’m glad that the foiled shadows and powder eyeshadows came in kits! Made it so much easier for me to start-up my Makeup Geek collection. 😉

 

 

MAKEUP GEEK FOILED EYESHADOWS REVIEW

These Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows are cream-to-powder hybrid shadows that have intense pigmentation, and does not require a primer to avoid creasing.

These are supposed to have the intensity and vibrance of wet eyeshadows.

 

At first swatch, the shadows feel so smooth and rather “bouncy”, some almost have a gel kind of feel. They’re so soft and creamy, and had very little flaking and patchiness.

Pigmentation and color payoff is excellent, except for a few, which I will identify below.

 

SHADES

All of these have a frosty metallic finish.

Here are the swatches:

Magic Act is a soft gold with warm undertones. It was slightly patchy, crumbly and not intensely pigmented when first applied, but after blending in for a while and packing on about 2 extra layers, it’s opaque and smooth.

In The Spotlight is described as a “soft pink with coral undertones”. It’s basically a light peachy-pink shade. This was much easier and smoother to apply than Magic Act.

Grandstand is a rose gold with warm undertones. It has the feel of the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette!

Flame Thrower I was so surprised by the smoothness of this particular shade, it was slippery smooth and one of the most intensely pigmented shades. It’s a bright orangey copper shade with a very smooth metallic sheen.

Showtime is a brownish burgundy/cranberry shade and I notice that it has slight silver shimmers in it, but very subtle. It’s also a bit less metallic than the rest of the foiled eyeshadows.

Mesmerized is a deep taupe with slight purple-ish/pink-ish tones.

Houdini is a deep, emerald green/teal with the most beautiful metallic sheen. This has got to be one of my top favorite shades! Can’t wait to get this on my eyelids!

Center Stage is a bright royal blue and is honestly one of the least pigmented ones. I had to layer it up a bit to get to the intensity of the photographed swatch.

Caitlin Rose is a bright amethyst purple and is less intense and opaque than the rest of the shadows, but still gorgeous nevertheless.

Jester is also one of my top favorites! It’s a gorgeous bright green with gold and yellow tones.

Check out this look I did using the foiled eyeshadows in Grandstand (all over lid) and Magic Act (center of lids), with the Creme Brulee eyeshadow as a transition color in the crease and Mocha on the outer corners.

MAKEUP GEEK 9 EYESHADOW STARTER KIT

The Makeup Geek 9 Eyeshadow Starter Kit include the following shades:

Cocoa Bear is matte golden brown. From some angles it seems like it kinda has a matte-satin finish. This shade is so popular and I’m glad I got it in the kit because it will be perfect for contouring the lids. Its texture is very dry when swatched with a finger but I’m sure it will be smooth and easy to work with when used with a brush.

Mocha is a matte, warm medium brown and is another perfect shade for contouring and smoking out the lids. Texture is similarly dry to the touch as Cocoa Bear.

Glamorous is a gorgeous, shimmery bronze-gold. Seriously one of my top faves!

Creme Brulee is a soft matte, medium sand color and is in my Top 3 favorites, I kid you not. Yes, it looks like a boring skintone shade, but its magic touch will make your shadows look so well-blended and flawless.

Shimma Shimma is a metallic champagne and is the perfect shimmery highlight shade. It really reminds me of MAC Shroom, but it’s much more shimmery.

Drama Queen is an intensely dark purple with red and silver shimmers. It has a slightly frosty finish. It doesn’t apply complete opaque at first swipe, but is definitely buildable to our desired opacity.

Prom Night is a shimmery “pale purple with hints of grey.”

Unexpected is a light purple-pink satin-matte shade, perfect for blending bright purple and pink eyeshadows! It would be gorgeous when worn alone too.

Corrupt is an intense matte black with a tiny bit of sparkle.

 

 

MAKEUP GEEK INDIVIDUAL EYESHADOWS

And here are the Makeup Geek Individual Eyeshadows that I purchased on top of the starter kit shadows:

Cinderella is a gorgeous shimmery peachy-pink with a frosty finish. I am so glad I picked up this shade, it will look so flattering on the lids! One of my top faves!

Cosmopolitan is another gorgeous one that I’m so in love with, and it’s a “rose gold with gold flecks and a shimmery finish”. I find that it looks a bit like a coral-ish and reddish pink. It’s redder than the “Grandstand” foiled eyeshadow, and softer and lighter than “Flame Thrower”.

Moondust is a warm-toned silver taupe shade with a metallic, frosty finish.

Simply Marlena is one shade I was a bit disappointed by at first. I had high expectations for this as it is such a beautiful shade, but it turned out to be very light in pigmentation. It was very sheer, dry and powdery/flaky too. The shade is a gorgeous satin-matte rosy fuschia pink with cool undertones. I’m still glad I got this shade though because just look how beautiful it is! I’m sure I can work around its powderiness and flakiness.

 

 

MAKEUP GEEK PIGMENT

I only purchased one pigment, and it’s in the shade Insomnia.

Blue-teal-brown duochrome shades are my all-time favorites! I have them in the MAC “Blue Brown” pigment, Too Faced Pretty Rebel palette in the shade “Girly” and Wet & Wild “Comfort Zone” palette. So of course I had to get Insomnia.

The shade will look teal, blue or brown depending on the lighting and angle. Also, the thing with these duochrome shadows is you can layer it on top of brown or black shadows to change its color.

On top of Cocoa Bear, a matte golden brown, the shade becomes much more intense and the teal tones become more visible and vivid. On top of Corrupt, a matte black shade, the shade becomes an intense teal green. When combined and blended together, they’re going to make the most gorgeous, duochrome smokey eye look! I can’t wait to try them out!

The texture of this pigment is very soft too!
