Benefit They’re Real Mascara & Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liners Review

The original Benefit They’re Real mascara has been one of my all time favorite mascaras ever since it launched way back in my college years (forgot when exactly, lol). So when they launched the colored versions of the mascara, I freaked out.

On the contrary, I was very disappointed with the original They’re Real Push-Up Liner. It clumps up even before I can apply a straight line, it smudges so easily and is impossible to create a thin, sharp line with. However, I still really wanted to give the colored versions a try.

Read on for my Benefit They’re Real Mascara & Benefit Push-Up Liners review and see if I enjoyed these!

Benefit They're Real (2)

Benefit They’re Real Mascara Review

Beyond Blue & Beyond Brown

The mascaras come in two additional colors: blue and brown.

Formula wise, they’re very similar to the original, but they seem to feel a bit wetter because they take longer to dry out.

Color wise, since I have black lashes, I would have to apply a few layers (maybe even up to five or six layers!) to get the color to pop up well. It does get a bit messy, I don’t mind it though since it’s nothing a cotton tip can’t fix – as long as the lashes end up bright and vivid!

Benefit They're Real Mascara - Beyond Blue

I love how the blue looks on me, but the brown isn’t too visible. In the photo above I was wearing false lashes and the brown mascara so I could tell the difference between the two colors. As you can see the brown underneath does look slightly brighter, but not too bright that people would be able to tell that it’s brown.

I think the brown would look great on people with lighter hair color. But still, the formula and longevity is as incredible as the original.

I’ve been using Beyond Blue a lot, especially on the lower lashes! So I definitely love this and highly recommend these for a fun pop-of-color on your eyes this Australian Summer! 😉

They retail for US$24 at Sephora (approx. AU$33 before tax) and AU$40 at Myer Australia. They also sell the travel-sized for half price at Sephora.

Beyond Purple & Beyond Brown

In addition to black, the liners come in four shades: brown, purple, green and blue. I got the brown and purple.

I’m using the purple in this photo and it. is. GORGEOUS! Especially in person.

The reason why I disliked the black when I first got it was because it smeared on me the several times I’ve worn it. So when I tried the colored ones, I expected some smearing and smudging as well, especially because I was in Indonesia when I was testing it out.

To my surprise, they had such an amazing longevity and durability! They didn’t smear or transfer at all! I’ve been using the brown for an everyday, light makeup look, and I’ve been using the purple for days when I need an extra UMPH! Totally been loving these two. So pleasantly surprised they didn’t work as bad as I expected!

However, I did have problems with the clumping. Once product is dispensed, I have a habit of twisting up too much product and so everytime I apply the liner, I’d end up with a clump of the gel liner on one end. It’s really difficult to fix at first, but I got a hold of it. A better way to avoid clumping is to apply it on your hand first, just to warm up the product. It’ll make the liner glide on so much smoother. Cleaning up the back of the hand is bothersome, though. So I only wear these when I’m not in a rush to get my makeup done.

All in all I’ve been loving these too and will definitely get the blue and green for Christmas! They retail for the same price as the mascaras in Sephora, with the travel-sized version for half the price, and are AU$37 at Myer Australia.

Have you ever tried these? Let me know what you think!
