Bobbi Brown Crush Lip Color, Shimmer Brick & Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm Review

Bobbi Brown has a special place in my heart, not only for the exceptional quality of her products, but because some of my very first makeup items were from the brand. I still have my first matte eyeshadow palette ever, and her classic Petal Rose Shimmer Brick was one of my very first highlighters ever – and this was from way back when “highlighting” wasn’t even trendy yet!

So I’m pumped that I get to review some of her new releases. In this blog post, I will be reviewing the:

  • Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in Sunset;
  • Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm in Pink Glow; and
  • Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Rose.

Check out my thoughts on these beauties below!

BOBBI BROWN CRUSHED LIP COLOR REVIEW

AVAILABLE FROM: Bobbi Brown Australia, Adore Beauty, Mecca Cosmetica, Myer, David Jones (A$46)

These lipsticks are available in 20 “crush-worthy” shades and I was sent the shade Sunset, which is a bright orange. I squeeeaked when I saw the color because it’s such a fun, bright shade and orange-reds are my favorite type of bright colored lipsticks.

Loaded with soft-matte pigments that deliver high impact color with a matte, just-kissed, stained effect.

I’m not really sure what they meant by “stained effect” because these lipsticks deliver full-on intense and opaque color. I’ve worn this color twice and both times they lasted for more than 4-5 hours, which is incredible for a bullet lipstick that’s moisturizing. Now I really want to try the other colors, particularly the nude ones (obviously).

BOBBI BROWN EXTRA ILLUMINATING MOISTURE BALM REVIEW

AVAILABLE FROM: Bobbi Brown Australia, Adore Beauty, Myer (A$95)

These are “skin boosting balms that illuminate and re-energize the skin with long-term treatment benefits” and are available in three shades: Bare Glow, Pink Glow and Golden Glow, and I got the shade Pink Glow, which made me so happy because I love pink!

These are a bit different from highlighters and illuminators in general because this is more of a primer or moisturizer, but it adds a glow and beautiful sheen to the skin. In the side-by-side swatch comparison you can see that my bare hand just looks matte and flat, whereas the other hand with the Moisture Balm looks so dewy, fresh and glowing.

I personally have dry skin and I really like how this sits on the skin, and I like how it doesn’t make me look like a disco ball. I’ve actually been using this without any other makeup on top – no foundation, powder, or even concealer. Some days I just finish off with this and nothing else! Kind of like the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow (mentioned in this post and this post), except this one is so much richer and has a much dewier finish. It keeps my skin moisturized throughout the day too!

If you have oily or acne prone skin, I don’t really know if you would like this. Maybe opt for the Shimmer Brick instead, reviewed below.

So, I actually really enjoyed this product but was so shocked when I saw the price! This is definitely a splurge item, but if you’re all for that no-makeup makeup look, this will make a great addition in your vanity!

BOBBI BROWN SHIMMER BRICK REVIEW

AVAILABLE FROM: Bobbi Brown Australia, Adore Beauty, Mecca Cosmetica, Myer, David Jones (A$75)

Bobbi Brown’s iconic Shimmer Bricks are multi purpose highlighters that can be worn on the eyes and cheeks, and on the cheeks they can be used as a highlighter or as a blush. Each compact contains 5 strips of colors that can be swirled on together using a brush, or individually using a finger or a small brush.

These are more on the intense side of the glow spectrum. They’re shimmery and rather glittery but they’re so soft, finely milled and they definitely don’t contain chunky glitters, so they look beautiful and natural on the skin. From what I can remember, I think their older formulas had chunkier glitters in them, but this reformulated one is so much smoother and softer – and I love it!

“Shimmering, brush-on powder that creates a deep glow. The formula is handmade in Italy and is an iconic, award winning Bobbi Brown product.”

The Shimmer Bricks are available in five shades: Beige, Pink Quartz, Bronze, Rose and Nectar. I got the shade Rose and it contains five strips of colors: a pearly iridescent white, a light bronze, a light terracotta, a light rose pink, and a brighter rosy hot pink. I love swirling them together to get the perfect shimmery blush look. This way I don’t need to wear two separate products for blush and highlight! The pigmentation in these are very buildable, so with one soft layer it would look like a subtle color-less highlight, but with more layers the pinks would eventually show up. I’m not sure if the pinks would show up on darker skin tones, but it showed up on my light-medium skin, but even if the pink pigments doesn’t show up on your skin they would make a beautiful highlight.

They do look intimidating in the pan, but I can assure you, these are soft, beautiful and looks so natural on the skin!

All in all, I really did enjoy all these products. My favorite is still the Shimmer Brick, but I’m definitely on the lookout for more colors from the Crushed Lip Color range!
