Current Hair & Skincare Favorites

When I got out of the shower this morning, I realized one thing. Most of my current favorite hair & skincare favorites have green packaging! It certainly inspired me to write up a favorites post, which I haven’t done in for. ever.

So here’s a brief review on each of these products:

FACE

BLISTEX HAPPY LIPS*

AVAILABLE FROM: Priceline (A$3)

I got the whole set of Blistex Happy Lips last year and they remain one of my all-time favorite range of lip balms, not only because of their scents and how incredibly moisturizing and comfortable they are on the lips, but because of the packaging! I like that it comes with a tall lid instead of a tiny cap that other lip balms have – they somehow often goes missing!

Melon is hands down my favorite scent.

DERMA ENERGY A MEAN CLEAN EE CLEANSER*

AVAILABLE FROM: Derma Energy (A$44), Selected Clinics

I’m new to this brand but I was confident this product would work as Derma Energy is a medical skincare brand that is only available for purchase through their website, or at selected beauty clinics and dermatologists. I ran out of my favorite cleanser from Elucent (review here) and so I thought I’d give this a try before I repurchase my Elucent cleanser.

They sent me two cleansers but I was drawn to this one because it contains Glycolic Acid (dissolves the glue that holds dead skin to the surface), Lactic Acid (similar to Glycolic), and Adenosine Triphosphate (energy bank for the skin). These AHAs are great for acne, hyperpigmentation and dark spots!

This has a thicker gel consistency than the Elucent and cleans really well, but IT STINGS THE EYES! You’ve been warned, don’t try to remove eye makeup with this. I learned it the hard way LOL. So I’ve just been using this as a morning or in-shower cleanser. The citrus scent is so refreshing, and I love that it has helped me maintain my acne-free skin.

DRUNK ELEPHANT PROTINI POLYPEPTIDE CREAM

AVAILABLE FROM: Sephora ($68)

I got this in Chicago when my skin was crazy dehydrated on New Year’s Day (record-breaking freezing weather!) as my Tatcha Water Cream didn’t seem to be hydrating enough anymore. And I didn’t bring my face oils, so I thought I might as well try this out as it seemed so intriguing.

Long story short, I fell in love. My sandpaper-like skin was smoother and softer the next day. This has been my go-to cream for colder months and drier climates! It has a lotion-type consistency that is thicker and almost gel-like, and gets absorbed into the skin pretty fast.

SIMPLE CLEANSING MICELLAR WATER

AVAILABLE FROM: Priceline (A$12.99), Ulta ($7.99)

Now, this might seem odd, but I don’t use this at night to remove makeup because it’s a terrible makeup remover! (Well, I sometimes do, only when I’m wearing a tiny bit of makeup.)

But… I’ve actually been using this as a morning cleanser when I need to rush out the door. I simply saturate a cotton pad and swipe it all over my face. This gets all the dirt and any makeup residue from the night before and I love that I don’t even have to rinse my face. I just apply SPF and off I go. So Simple 🙂

TATCHA THE WATER CREAM

AVAILABLE FROM: Amazon ($89), Sephora ($68), Mecca Cosmetica (A$99)

This has been my holy grail moisturizer for a while. I mean, can we just appreciate how aesthetically-pleasing-to-the-eyes the packaging is? The shape reminds me of an apple and the gold spatula makes my heart skip a beat.

Aside from the beautiful packaging, I love the product itself. It’s really unique as it looks like gel, but when applied on the skin it feels like water! It’s such a weird feeling, but it’s incredible. It gets immediately absorbed into the skin and my skin is left feeling incredibly nourished and moisturized. Plus it smells like heaven.

Since I have dry skin, I find that this isn’t enough for winter months though. I use the Drunk Elephant, mentioned above, for when my skin needs an extra boost of hydration.

HAIR & BODY

GARNIER FRUCTIS COCONUT WATER SHAMPOO*

AVAILABLE FROM: Priceline (A$13.99, 700 ml), Supermarkets and Chemists (A$5-6)

My hair has been all kinds of weird and wonky these days with all the traveling, moving-countries, and renovations we’ve been doing, so my hair has been pretty dry but my scalp has been very itchy and oily. Fortunately I had the whole range of Garnier Fructis shampoos at my disposal, and this one caught my eye as it said “Oily Roots Dry Ends”. This was the answer to my prayers – my scalp is so much calmer now and my hair is no longer brittle and dry. I can’t believe how affordable this is!

KAMILL HAND & NAIL CREME

AVAILABLE FROM: Amazon ($8.25)

This has healed my dry, cracked, flaky hands and it smells beautiful. I love how moisturizing it is without feeling goopy, tacky or uncomfortable. It gets absorbed into the skin so fast and just does its job.

I just realized this is actually a European brand, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for this when I travel to Europe soon! I honestly don’t know where I can get this in Australia, which is so weird because I got this sample at the Beauty Expo in Melbourne LOL.
