Review: Tony Moly Egg Pore Tightening Cooling Mask

No, it’s not Easter yet, but it sure feels like it whenever I’m holding this egg-shaped mask! This wash-off mask by Tony Moly claims to visibly tighten pores and the packaging is incredibly adorkable. Though not travel-friendly, it adds a dose of cuteness to my vanity – love it!

Q-Depot was kind enough to send me this mask. I’m really glad I got to try this.

So, does this mask really tighten pores? Read on to find out!

Texture: The texture looks very funny! I honestly thought this product had gone bad or has expired when I first opened it up because I expected the texture to be smooth and/or creamy, but turns out it looks like whipped cream cheese. It’s very airy-light, bouncy, foamy and fluffy, almost like sponge, it’s so cute!

The texture is a bit dry so when you pick up the product with your fingers, be cautious of fallouts. Some of the “fluff” fell off my finger when I first picked it up because it’s so soft and airy, gotta be gentle!

Scent: I didn’t really notice any strong scents at first, it actually smelled pretty nice and fresh, but a few minutes after application, as it was drying out on the skin, I caught a whiff of a strong, fishy, cheesy scent. It honestly smelled weird for a while, but it quickly went away. I’m not disturbed by the scent at all.

Packaging: The packaging is honestly the best aspect of this product. It’s so uniquely packaged! It’s basically a plastic tub, but in the shape of an egg. The size is twice bigger than an actual egg though.

I don’t have it in the pictures but actually, when you open up the top part of the egg, the tub is covered by a yellow plastic cover. I’m guessing it’s yellow because it represents the yolk? How cute is that! The plastic cover just ensures the product is tightly sealed.

Application: Since I have dry skin, applying this all over my face would be deadly for me, so I only applied this in my T-Zone area, including my nose, inner cheeks, forehead and chin. I don’t really have large, open pores but pores are definitely visible.

As I previously mentioned, the texture is very fluffy and dry, but when blended on the skin, the consistency turns rather creamy.

To use the mask, I simply take a blob of fluff and apply it directly on to my skin.

It will firstly seem as if it’s difficult to blend evenly because when you try to spread out the cream (or fluff? ^^) the tiny, creamy balls just don’t seem to want to cooperate – they just swirl around with the movement of your fingers and won’t be crushed.

After a while, it’ll become easier to blend out – you just need to warm it up first.

After it’s warmed up, it’ll be easier to blend and even out on the skin.

It will dry out after five minutes, but you’re supposed to keep it on for 10-15 minutes. By then your skin will feel very, very tight. I couldn’t even open my mouth to talk properly! It dries up to a chalky, powdery finish.

I couldn’t wait until 10 minutes because my skin was so dry, I decided to wash it off after about 7 minutes. I washed it off with warm water, but I find that it takes quite a while to be washed off – I was very impatient so after trying to rinse it off for half-a-minute, I ended up taking a wet cloth and removed whatever remained on the skin with it.

Product: After I dried my face, I honestly couldn’t see any visible pore-tightening results. However, my skin did feel so much more refreshed and it did feel tighter. Since I have dry skin, this probably would not be a suitable mask for me because it added to the tightness I usually feel on my skin. This would definitely suit people with larger pores and oilier skin, though.

One more thing I noticed was that my skin’s texture felt so much smoother. It was a bit gritty before I used the mask, I think it was due to the flakiness and dryness of the skin. After I washed and dried my face off, it is visibly smoother. My serum and moisturizer glided on the skin so much smoother after I used this mask.

Final Verdict: For the price, I think it’s nice to have, but it’s not a must. I won’t say this product is a necessity, unlike the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask which I’ve reviewed here. That, I probably can’t live without and will keep repurchasing.

I really liked this mask but it’s not something that I would regularly use on a weekly basis, mostly because of my skin type. It’s something that I would reach for during emergencies though, or if I need a quick pick-me-up for something that can quickly tighten my pores, say, before an important event or a photo session.

However, if you have oily skin and large pores, I would actually recommend this because I did feel a tightening, smoothing and cooling sensation.

I give this 3.5/5 buttons for:

  • insanely adorable packaging,
  • skin-texture smoothing results,
  • and for giving a very refreshing sensation!
  • I also think the tightening attribute would be beneficial for people with oilier skin.
