Almay Shadow Quad Review

Almay Shadow Quads

Almay recently released 15 shades of monochromatic eyeshadow quads, and each of these quads include four finishes: matte, satin, metallic, glitter. So basically… one shade, four ways!

I got these last month and was so excited to try these as I really like Almay’s face products as they’re suitable for my then-sensitive skin.

Check out my Almay Shadow Quad reviews and swatches below.

ALMAY SHADOW QUAD REVIEW

Meet Your Squad! Almay’s Shadow Squad features one shade in four beautiful finishes – satin, matte, metal and glitter. Wear alone or all together for modern monochrome looks!

COLOR PAYOFF & FORMULA

I bought a total of 6 shades, and being the boring person that I am, four of them actually look pretty similar. LOL.

Almay Shadow Qudas

Almay claims that these have a soft, velvety formula with gorgeous color payoff. The “soft” and “velvety formula” parts are true as the shadows are not rough or dry and can be blended so easily and smoothly. However, the pigmentation is very sheer, especially with the satin and glitter shades. The good thing is, though, that they are all very buildable.

As you can see in the heavy swatches below they all ended up looking pretty intense, but several layers were required to get them to look that intense. The metallic shades are the most buttery and pigmented ones.

Almay Shadow Quad Swatches

150 Pure Gold, Baby is literally pure gold. This is one of my top favorites, the metallic shade is so beautiful. I can see myself reaching for this quad a lot.

190 Unapologetic is a gorgeous reddish pink and is my absolute favorite. If you’re planning to get one shade, get this one. The pigmentation is among the best out of the six I purchased, and this can work really well as a blush/highlighter too. I’ve actually swirled my blush brush in this and applied it on my cheeks several times already, and it looked stunning.

240 Throwing Shade is a cool-toned dark grey and would be ideal for smokey eye looks, but sadly the pigmentation isn’t good enough. These were patchy and a bit difficult to blend compared to the others.

110 Cause a Stir is a taupe grey, also another one I really like.  These weren’t as dry and rough as 240 although it kind of has a similar tone.

170 Individualist is a deep bronze and the metallic shade is my favorite. It’s such a gorgeous all-over-lid shade and it is sooo similar to Urban Decay Naked Palette’s “Smog” shade. This one’s just not as metallic and intense.

180 Ambition is a dark plum and is my least favorite. The satin shade is almost invisible and overall it just looks a bit ashy and overly-cool-toned to me. The formula is fine, just not a huge fan of the colors and pigmentation.

PACKAGING

I was honestly surprised to see how small these were. They looked huge in their promotional photos but they’re about the size of a single Colourpop blush, which is pretty standard I guess. Not complaining, just surprised. HEHE.

Oh, and I like how these come in a clear packaging so we can clearly see the colors inside! They look like chocolate bars and are so pretty.

FINAL VERDICT

So, overall, I really like 150, 190, 110 and 170! I’ll probably give the other two I didn’t like to my mom or my friend. LOL. And I do recommend them as they’re very affordable. (Ulta is currently having a BOGO 50% off deal on all Almay products!)

I like how Unapologetic works well as a blush, so I’m definitely gonna get the other lighter shades to see if they’d work as a highlighter!

These are hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist tested, and safe for sensitive eyes, including contact lens wearers.
