L’Oreal Infallible Matte FX Lip Colour Review & Swatches

“Introducing the new generation of matte. The first lip shadow with a pro-designer cushion applicator to design infinite long lasting matte looks. Zero feel, never dry.”

These intriguing lip products are the L’Oreal Infallible Matte FX Lip Colours, and they were released earlier this year. I’m not sure if these exact same ones are available in countries other than Australia and NZ though.

They come in six completely different (and wearable!) shades, and I actually had all six shades from the range, but with a toddler running around the house and stuffing things in random nooks and crannies, I find myself losing at least two makeup products a month! The one I lost was the red shade, 007 Say My Name. BOOHOO! 🙁

Anyways, check out my L’Oreal Infallible Matte FX Lip Colours review and swatches below!

Shades

The six shades are very different, which makes me love the color range so much! I don’t like it when one lipstick range has similar/dupeable shades.

Here are the swatches:

001 Silencio: Peachy pink nude. My favorite!

002 Virgin: Medium pink with warm-neutral undertones. Another favorite of mine – I actually love mixing this with Silencio!

003 Oops I Pink It Again: Bright, reddish pink.

006 Disturbia: Bright, reddish orange.

008 I Gotta Feeling: Cool-toned plummy violet.

I obviously don’t have the swatch of 007 Say My Name, but it’s a gorgeous red with warm, orange-y undertones. Will update the swatches once I find it! (Fingers crossed!)

Formula

So the product itself is actually in the form of powder, which truly caught me by surprise when I first took the applicator out of the tube. I was skeptical at first, but once I swatched it on my hand, I was sold!

The powder somehow transformed into a creamy, lightweight formula once it got in contact with the skin or lips. Payoff was also incredibly opaque and semi-matte, turning completely matte after the first one or two hours. So it’s got intense color payoff with none of the heaviness that a conventional matte lipstick has! However, don’t expect this to have the same color intensity as liquid lipsticks or matte lipsticks in general. They give the lips more of a diffused, stained look, but still packed with pigment.

The only thing that disappointed me was that it clung unto dry patches and flakiness on the lips, so I had to top it off with a bit of a gloss. I’m not surprised though, powder products tend to do that.

Packaging

Packaging is very unique. It comes with a sponge applicator that is housed in a powder-filled tube. Whenever you dip the sponge back into the tube it picks up more product/powder. The tube also has a spring in it that helps control how much product you would get in one dip.

The sponge is very firm, but soft on the lips. It applies the color very precisely on the lips and the pointed end makes it easier for us to get into the edges of the mouth and the cupid’s bow.

Price

These retail for AU$23.95 at Priceline Australia.

Final Verdict

I love these so much and have been wearing them quite a lot when my lips aren’t too sensitive or dry.

If you’re looking for a matte lipstick that feels very lightweight on the lips (like you’re wearing no lip product at all!) and has a very diffused finish, give this a try!
