Maybelline The City Mini Palette Review

Maybelline The City Mini Palette

Last year I wrote an in depth comparison review between three drugstore nude palettes (read here), which included the Maybelline The Nudes palette. In all honesty I kinda lost faith in Maybelline eyeshadows as their palette didn’t really impress me much. However, these new Maybelline The City Mini Palette releases rocked my world, I’m soo ready for more Maybelline eyeshadows!

Check out my Maybelline The City Mini Palettes review and swatches below.

MAYBELLINE THE CITY MINI PALETTE REVIEW

I purchased four out of six palettes mainly because I don’t think I would use much of the Grafitti Pop palette as the colors are too bright for every day wear, and Urban Jungle, the green toned palette, is pretty much sold out everywhere I went – still on the hunt for it!

Although we can use these palettes any way we want, according to the guidelines, each of these palettes come with one base color (top left), two crease colors (two on the bottom left), two lid colors (two on the top right), and one liner color (bottom right).

Here’s a breakdown of the four palettes I purchased.

ROOFTOP BRONZES

This gorgeous bronze palette comes with all of my favorite everyday-wear colors. All of these shades are extremely creamy, buttery and blendable. They don’t sheer out too much when blended, and the fallouts are forgiveable.

Although all the shades are shimmery, I still find wearing this palette alone, without the use of any other palettes for matte shades, very doable as the dark liner shade has more of a satin finish with no chunky shimmers and thus can be used as an outer corner or crease shade. I’ve been reaching for this pretty much every time I had to wear makeup for the past couple of months!

DOWNTOWN SUNRISE

The watermelon pink shade is to die for, and I love how there’s a mix of shimmer, satin and semi-matte finishes in this palette. This palette is very well rounded! Perfect if you want a neutral palette for everyday wear but with a pop of color.

All of the shadows are very soft and creamy, and the pigmentation of the shimmer shades are very intense. The matte colors are a bit on the sheerer side but they’re very buildable, so don’t worry! It’s actually a good thing as it makes working with the darker color easier.

I mainly got this one for the watermelon pink shade and I love how the accompanying colors complement it so well.

CHILL BRUNCH NEUTRALS

This is, hands down, my favorite palette out of the bunch, which came as a surprise to me because these seem to be cooler toned than the others. The pinky rose gold shade is a stunning shade for the lids, and the matte muted mauve makes a gorgeous crease color. The dark purple liner color is also gorgeous on the entire lids, I used it to create a purple smokey eye and it was stunning!

I use the Rooftop Bronze more often than this, but I actually like this palette more as it has a variety of finishes! I use this palette more for special occasions and parties. I can testify that these eyeshadows are very long lasting as I wore this to an outdoor end-of-Summer pool party a few weeks back and they lasted the whole afternoon, and were still very much in tact until after midnight!

CONCRETE RUNWAY

This is a stunning, dark, bluish smokey palette that would be amazing for nights out. This palette also has a variety of finishes, and the matte nude shade is such an incredible blending color!

All of the shadows are intensely pigmented and the texture is creamy too. However, the pop of blue shade can feel a bit dry sometimes, but it still looks incredibly opaque.

FINAL VERDICT

All in all, I’m very impressed with these palettes and will definitely buy the other two I haven’t purchased. I highly recommend these because for the price, you’re really getting your money’s worth as these shadows are very intense, long lasting, and super easy to work with.

Have you tried these yet? Love it, or leave it?
