NYX Lip Lustre Review & Swatches

These aren’t liquid lipsticks, neither are they lip glosses. So, what are they?

Lavish your pout with extraordinary shine and a hint of brilliant color with our new Lip Lustre Glossy Lip Tint! Silky smooth with a lightweight finish, this revolutionary formula glides on a gloss and adjusts to a gorgeous tint that lasts.

The NYX Cosmetics Lip Lustre Glossy Lip Tints are exactly as they’re described – lip tints/stains with a glossy finish. The formula is unique, and the shade Rustic Mirage has been my staple lip color for the past few months! However, not all the shades worked for me.

SHADES

There are a total of 12 shades in the range and I have eight. Check out the swatches below:

Mystic Gypsy: Red pink (it looks like a bright, true red but leaves a pinky red stain).

Rustic Mirage: Tea rose pink.

Retro Socialite: Deep fuschia.

Euphoric: Hot pink.

Violet Glass: Bright violet.

Juicy Peach: Coral.

Ruby Couture: Muted red pink.

Dark Magic: Deep indigo (leaves a dark, pinky purple stain).

Here are the lip swatches:

These are all very, very pigmented when first applied but they slightly sheer out once blended.

I love Rustic Mirage so much I already have a backup in my stash! Sadly, not all the colors worked for me. The quality were somehow inconsistent. Although they were pigmented, they don’t always blend out evenly.

For example, I often get bald spots when running the two purples (Violet Glass and Dark Magic) over my lips. They’re just so difficult to even out and even end up seeming like they’re a mix of pink and purple, but once they dry out and leave a stain, they look pretty even.

Ruby Couture is another one that I find difficult to even out – the color is gorgeous but I could never have it looking smooth. I have to wait 3-5 minutes for it to set to even it out with my finger.

FORMULA

These have a smooth, plumped, juicy gel texture and feels wet on the lips for at least the first 10 minutes with a slightly cooling and tingling sensation. It’s not a lip plumper though, and I actually find it comfortable and hydrating. It’s like putting on watery gel on the lips.

After that it dries up but still feels plump on the lips, but not wet. These are just meant to leave an intense stain on the lips with a slightly glossy finish. So don’t expect these to perform like liquid lipsticks, and don’t expect your lips to remain looking wet and juicy for long.

LONGEVITY

The lips won’t remain looking glossy and wet for long as it will dry up to a stain, but still slightly juicy-looking somehow. The stain lasts for at least 4 hours.

APPLICATOR

They come with a doe foot applicator and it works really well for this kind of formula although some of the colors are a bit difficult to work with (but that’s got to do with the formula, not the applicator).

FINAL VERDICT

I would definitely give five stars for Rustic Mirage, but I’m still not sure about the rest. I highly recommend Rustic Mirage, that’s all I can say for now.
