Bourjois Nude Sensation Blur Effect Foundation Review

Ever since I got this in the mail, I haven’t been able to stop using this. Even on days when I’m staying home all day!

I present to you, my Bourjois Nude Sensation Blur Effect Foundation review!

What is it with Bourjois and foundations? They are setting the standards so high in the drugstore-foundation league that they are comparable, or even better, than high end foundations!

Before I tried this foundation, my favorite drugstore foundation is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation, which I’ve reviewed here.

Shade

As a reference, I wear shade no. 53 in the Healthy Mix range and I wear no. 43 in this range. My skin tone is light-medium with neutral to golden undertones.

Product

Bourjois claims that this foundation will give a flawless complexion with refined pores and smoother fine lines. I’m not sure about having a completely flaw-free complexion, but my pores do seem so much more refined and lines and definitely smoother in appearance.

These photos are completely raw and unedited and I was only wearing one thin layer of the foundation, blended with my fingers, on the photo on the right. I don’t have much open pores but they are visible, and I do have a lot of tiny freckles and sunspots, which the foundation have smoothed and blurred out so well! The freckles are still visible but when I see myself in the mirror, I actually couldn’t see it. It’s visible here because of my camera’s macro lens that can detect every single bit of pigment. Overall complexion is considerably brighter too!

Best thing is, it feels and LOOKS like skin! It says it has “bare skin sensation” and I can’t agree more! It literally feels like nothing is on your skin, which is why I’ve been using it even on days when I’m staying home all day.

Finish

It has a velvety smooth finish and is very soft to the touch, even without setting powder. It looks neither matte not dry, it’s kinda like satin-matte. So, not completely matte because it’s got properties to make it look like skin, hence the name “Nude Sensation”, but it makes the skin look sorta airbrushed too!

Coverage

This has sheer to medium coverage. As you can see below, pores and freckles are less visible with one thin layer of the foundation.

As you can see, my pores and sun spots or freckles are much less visible with one thin layer of the foundation. Note that this photo is veerrrry zoomed in, so in person, it’s even more flawless and smooth-looking.

This has a mousse, air-touch texture, that glides on very smoothly like a silicon-based primer, which isn’t a surprise because the first ingredient listed is Dimethicone. Dimethicone is a good emollient or “slip agent” ingredient though, so I’m not concerned.

It sure feels like a primer, except it’s tinted! So, primer and foundation in one, I guess?

Its smooth texture makes it easy to apply and blend evenly with the fingers. For heavier coverage, I like using a dense, flat kabuki brush to apply, but I usually use my fingers for sheer to medium coverage or daily use.

Longevity

It lasted for more than 6 hours on my skin, whether in hot/humid or cold/dry climates. This was the only foundation I wore when I was in Indonesia for two weeks – the oil control is amazing. It also doesn’t feel drying on the skin in cold weather. It actually makes the skin feel more supple and hydrated!

The amazing thing is that you don’t even need to set it with powder to make it last that long!

Packaging

It’s packaged in a glass jar, which most people would probably dislike due to hygiene issues but I personally don’t mind because it doesn’t really matter if you touch the product with clean hands anyway.

Final Verdict

All in all, of course I love this product. It has all the properties I’ve always wanted in a foundation!

Pros:

  • Looks like skin!
  • Airbrushed finish
  • Easy and smooth application (no tools needed)
  • Smooth, velvety finish even without setting powder
  • Blurs imperfections and lines relatively well

Cons:

I can’t think of any but I think a lot of people will complain about the jar packaging, but I think it’s because these types of whipped/mousse products can only be packaged this way.

Bourjois, ya NAILED IT! Full marks for this!

Have you tried this foundation? I know I’m a bit late to the game but I’m so thankful I met this foundation!
